A New Sustainable Warehouse Management Approach for Workforce and Activities Scheduling

Sustainable engineering is very important for logistics systems. Nowadays, sustainable warehouse management a key factor in market success. Workforce fluctuation and inverting the number of customers’ demands make lot problems distribution warehouses. This study addresses approach workforce scheduling problem recognized real warehouse. The arises from high variability demand workers over one workday, which causes surplus some periods workday shortages others. Engineering managers already use different full-time part-time shifts, schedule on activities, but they still have significant surpluses or periods. proposes activities’ execution together with to face that decrease cost workforce. idea comes fact activities can be done specific time period after need them occurs. In this way, decreased, lower may ensured. Based idea, entire modeled as integer linear programming. example solved, proposed model tested randomly generated instances Python by means PuLP programming package. results indicate positive effects manner management: costs, savings, better utilization all types resources equipment, increased employee satisfaction, so on. For even 61% introduced problem, obtained more than 20% if executions are scheduled employees.
